My son has been attending here for about 4 months now and he loves it.  Having a child with ADHD and some behavioral issues always gave me pause when enrolling him in group activities, but the instructors have been so patient with him as well as his fellow students. It has been a great way for him to release some extra energy and receive positive reinforcement all the while learning the martial arts.
Thank you Charles Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy!

This place is the spot for the best martial arts instruction in town.

If you or your kids are going to get into a martial art for fitness, fun or self defense Jiu Jitsu is the one I would recommend to anyone. And if you are going to learn Jiu Jitsu, Gracie Jiu Jitsu is, arguably, as good as it gets.

This place is run by Charles & son Riury (sp?). They are both awesome coaches and great with kids. My eldest son has been going here for a year or so and he loves it. It has bolstered his self image, instilled a love of healthy competition in him, and taught him a lot about good sportsmanship...oh, yeah, he's also learning Jiu Jitsu!

We love the camaraderie between academies, the tournaments and what it has done for our kids.

4 stars for that!

They would be 5 stars if they had a bigger spot. It gets crowded on the mat some times and although there is additional parking in the back most of us like to park in the front lot (where we can see our cars) and that gets full quick.

Hands down, THE place to go for martial arts training!

Whether you're just beginning to train or have experience doing martial arts in the past, the Academy provides a healthy challenge within a friendly atmosphere.

The training here is intense and top-notch. Charles does a great job of disciplining his students (both young and old) and promoting an environment in which his students can concentrate on improving and refining their skills. Because of the new renovations, there is almost double the mat area -- which allows for better spacing during the rigorous drills and more room to maneuver during sparring sessions. The mats themselves are kept clean. The facilities (the bathroom and locker room in the back) are properly maintained and very sanitary.

The instructors and fellow students alike are extremely friendly and always willing to teach what they know, working together to support everyone's progress. They encourage students to ask questions, providing suggestions to better execute techniques. Patient, but not without moments of "tough love" that contribute to the overall improvement of the student. There is definitely a sense of family and camaraderie within this Academy, as well as between its other branches and affiliates.

The training will get you fit both mentally and physically, giving you the drive to continue coming to class excited to learn more!

I have been training for a little over 4 months and can say that this experience, my first in martial arts, has allowed me to reshape my views on hard work and discipline, all for the better.

A very professional, yet friendly and respectful atmosphere. Everyone is very helpful and kind. An excellent choice for a place to learn one of the most dangerous martial arts, from the original family! At the same time, a great place for learning other strong values such as discipline and respect. There is great camaraderie and sportsmanship amongst the team members and you are left feeling a part of a great team. All this while you are getting in great physical as well as cardiovascular and mental shape!

This place is awesome.  There are many black belt BJJ instructors teaching and training here.  They have absolute beginners only classes and girl friend trains here too.  Not too many BJJ schools have ladies training, infact, we checked out all the schools in SF. I also train in MMA as well and they have many coaches who can help average Joe's like me.  I highly recommend this place.

When I moved to SF I had a list of dojos to check out. I had previously trained in Japanese JuJitsu... I walked into Charles Gracie on Taraval and was welcomed so warmly I joined that same day - That and the extreme work out.  Didn't have to check out any other places. Found my family.

I and my two oldest sons train at the Academy and I give it my full vote of excellence. This is the real deal, people. The instruction is top-notch and very deep as some of the upper belts bring in elements of Hapkido, Muay-thai, Boxing and Judo. All of the main instructors are serious competitors and one holds a championship belt in mma. We've got a few fighters ready to turn pro. Both gi and no-gi are represented. An added benefit is that, come sparring time, the higher belts at the Academy know how to vary the intensity of their attack to suit your abilities. Anyone who has trained in multiple academies knows that this is not always the case ;-). A friendly, supportive atmosphere ready and able to take you as far as you can go! Come train with us!

Quality instruction in the gentle art of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.  If you are looking for self defense, sport jiu-jitsu, technique to enhance your mma game, or maybe just fitness, this is the place to obtain technical knowledge and practical application in a family atmosphere.

As of the date of this posting, I have been training here for two years.  This is a first class martial arts school and a high quality top notch training facility.  From the first time you walk in the door as a stranger off the street to the veteran brown belt 4 stripe, everyone is treated like family and is warmly welcomed into the Gracie family.  The training is demanding yet very rewarding in a sense of personal accomplishment that is achieved every time you bow out at the end of class.  If you are looking for a martial arts training program that has practical self defense techniques, low stress learning environment, egoless training partners, lifetime skills development, personal challenges and a great head instructor (Charles Gracie), then this is the place for you.
