I wish to formally announce the Sixth Annual Charles Gracie Invitational Jiu-Jitsu Tournament 2013 has been scheduled for Saturday, October 26th. The competition will be held in Lathrop, California, at the Main Gym of Lathrop High School located at 647 Spartan Way, Lathrop, California 95330. The date is certain and all the students from the Charles Gracie Network need to begin preparation for the competition.
This will be a great opportunity for us to celebrate our formal anniversary with my entire Network (students and affiliated schools). We all take a moment in time to appreciate all the values, not just the skills, we have learned.
Last year the Tournament was a big success. I hope my students are thankful for the contributions of so many towards their achievements of their own goals and success.
The first and most important objective I have is that every single student in every affiliate academy, from the newest beginner to the most accomplished practitioner, be part of this event. To bring their family and friends to the celebration is the objective of this tournament. The competitive environment in lieu of the welcoming and warmth of the family atmosphere is not to take away from this celebration.
To participate in this event emphasizes the single most important element of success in the art, commitment to learning. This is the most important of all Jiu-Jitsu lessons. Without the commitment of your spirit, your will to learn, your focus of concentration; your ability under pressure, to remember the minute details of every technique that assures their effectiveness will never be what it can be. Participation as a competitor demonstrates your commitment to making yourself the most effective practitioner you can be.
It is in consideration of the values in all of the above that I ask you to make every effort to compete in this tournament or to have your child participate. Yes, there will be T-shirts, medals and other souvenirs at the competition for all the participants. But The Charles Gracie Invitational Jiu-Jitsu Tournament will forever be about more than who submitted who. It will be about the friendship we all share in the academies, the love we all share for the art and what it has done for us all as individuals.
Please join us for another unforgettable day. Win or lose, it is, beyond all else a great experience and a lot of fun. Let's get ready to rumble!
I really hope to see all of you at the Tournament!
Best regards,
Charles Gracie
